Each room is paneled with different locally harvested lumber (white and red pine, black ash, tamarack, and white cedar). Some of the wood has been left rough cut, to add rustic beauty. Other woods have been milled to random widths, either tongue and groove, shiplapped, or board and batten. Sanding and then varnishing the rooms to a beautiful luster allowed each room to achieve a rustic eloquence of its own. The spacious bathrooms have white cedar ceilings and large showers. All rooms can be individually heat controlled and air-conditioned; and all rooms have cable T.V. and access to complimentary wireless internet. With access to 4 lakes, this laid-back, year-round resort in the Superior National Forest was built in 1919, and is 4 miles from the International Wolf Center. Simple 2- to 8-bedroom cabins have mini-fridges, microwaves and coffeemakers, plus lake views, fire pits and decks. Suites feature 1 or 2 bedrooms, and add full kitchens and/or covered decks. Our rustic bar serves up a great Bloody Mary and homemade pizzas. Other amenities include a 40-person sauna, a swimming beach, fishing docks, and a marina with boat rentals. There’s also a fish-cleaning house, a game room and a playground.

Canoe Country Outfitters is conveniently located in downtown Ely, plus we maintain a private canoe base on Moose Lake (20 miles east of Ely). From these two locations we are able to quickly service all area trip starting points. We have outfitted more people and have been under the same family management longer than any other outfitter, so no one can match our experience and knowledge of the area. Entry permits are required to travel through this area and we’ll make the application in your behalf. These permits are very limited, so early planning is a must.
