Our remote cabins are hand hewn log cabins. Most of our remote cabins are located just minutes from the BWCA, away from roads and traffic. Our remote cabins offer not only privacy and solitude, but wonderful opportunities to see and hear a variety of wildlife. Chances are good you will hear wolves and loons right from your own remote cabin. With access to 4 lakes, this laid-back, year-round resort in the Superior National Forest was built in 1919, and is 4 miles from the International Wolf Center.
Simple 2- to 8-bedroom cabins have mini-fridges, microwaves and coffeemakers, plus lake views, fire pits and decks. Suites feature 1 or 2 bedrooms, and add full kitchens and/or covered decks.
Our rustic bar serves up a great Bloody Mary and homemade pizzas. Other amenities include a 40-person sauna, a swimming beach, fishing docks, and a marina with boat rentals. There’s also a fish-cleaning house, a game room and a playground.
Canoe Country Outfitters is conveniently located in downtown Ely, plus we maintain a private canoe base on Moose Lake (20 miles east of Ely). From these two locations we are able to quickly service all area trip starting points. We have outfitted more people and have been under the same family management longer than any other outfitter, so no one can match our experience and knowledge of the area.
Entry permits are required to travel through this area and we’ll make the application in your behalf. These permits are very limited, so early planning is a must.

In 1982, Disabled Veterans Recreation, Inc. was organized by a group of northeastern Minnesota citizens passionate about finding adequate recreational resources for veterans. Originally the Disabled Veterans Recreation, Inc., Veterans on the Lake was started for the sole purpose of creating a recreational facility for disabled veterans to enjoy vacations. As a non-profit facility, this recreational location was designed to and currently serves the needs of disabled veterans, able bodied veterans, active duty military, their families, and friends.
