On any of a number of Ely area lakes, we pursue a variety of species, both winter and summer. Lake trout, trophy pike, bass, walleyes and panfish are all on the menu. We fish out in the open in winter, as weather allows, but also fish out of heated portable hub shelters for client comfort, and in cold weather those shelters are set up in advance, so there’s no lingering outside in harsh temperatures. Lake trout, particularly in winter, are the most aggressive fish we’ve ever pursued through the ice. They will fly up and down the whole water column in pursuit of lures, and are strong and relentless fighters. There are crappies over 14″, pike over 40″ (with the largest so far 46.5″), and walleyes to 10 lbs. Summer rates are $350/full day and $250/half day for up to two anglers, with $50 for each additional angler. Winter rates are the same, except, because the days are short, only full day trips are offered. In all seasons, I provide all gear, so all clients need to bring is licenses and whatever they want to eat, drink and wear. Praise Fellowship, a non-denominational Christian church is centered in Jesus Christ and uses only the Bible to teach the difference between religion and Christianity. No traditions, no rituals, only the Word of God and His love is taught to lead and guide others into accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, which then leads to living an abundant and purposeful life here and now, while giving the assurance of possessing eternal life in heaven after leaving this world. We want people to know that God is love and that Jesus came to save us not condemn us, and the only way to possessing eternal life is having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Sunday morning Bible Study Classes are held at 9 a.m. Sunday morning services start at 10 a.m. The second Sunday of each month is our Communion Sunday   Church Office Hours: Thursdays from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.

The Ely Echo is the weekly newspaper known as the voice of the North Country, which was founded in 1972 by Miles Aakhus. Ownership passed to Anne Wognum Swenson in 1977 after she had worked for the paper for three years. At that time the editor was Bob Cary, a Chicago, Illinois writer. The Echo has been fortunate in attracting excellent journalists, photographers, designers and artists during its existence. It prides itself in welcoming all sides of any issue. It has had a diverse group of employees over the years. Currently, ownership is shared by Publisher Anne Swenson (thepub@elyecho.com), General Manager Nick Wognum (elyecho@aol.com), Editor Tom Coombe (tcoombe@aol.com) and Ad manager Lisa Vidal (ads@elyecho.com). Together they bring over 100 years of skill, service and training to Ely’s hometown newspaper. Their familiarity with Ely’s rich historical past gives the Echo insight into the changing times along the Canadian border.
