Visiting a church is hard work sometimes! You’ve got to find parking, find the sanctuary, look for a place to sit, familiarize yourself with the worship service and try to find the hymns in the hymnal! If you’ve got kids, it’s even more complicated! We completely understand. Helping you and your family find a safe and warm community of faith in which you can worship God and grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ is our top priority as a congregation. Raven Productions Inc. is an independent publisher in Ely, Minnesota. Our mission is to encourage children and grown-ups to explore, enjoy, and protect the natural world and share experiences with one another through story-telling, writing, and art. Raven Productions was established in 1995 with the production of The Ely Summer Times, a small magazine with articles about the Ely area, its people and history, a calendar of events, and all the information needed for tourists and residents to make the most of their visit or life in Ely. The Times became popular enough to expand to two editions per year in 1997. We added the Boundary Waters & Quetico Calendar in 1999, and published our first book in 2003. We now publish several books each year and distribute a few carefully select titles from other publishers. We support our local economy, keeping our business expenditures as close to northern Minnesota as possible and dealing with other small, independent businesses. Nearly all our printing is done in Minnesota. Our books are made with sturdy, high quality paper for durability. Our paperbacks are perfect bound and our hardcover books have library quality binding. We believe books are meant to be handed down from one generation to another, so we build ours to last.

The Ely Echo is the weekly newspaper known as the voice of the North Country, which was founded in 1972 by Miles Aakhus. Ownership passed to Anne Wognum Swenson in 1977 after she had worked for the paper for three years. At that time the editor was Bob Cary, a Chicago, Illinois writer. The Echo has been fortunate in attracting excellent journalists, photographers, designers and artists during its existence. It prides itself in welcoming all sides of any issue. It has had a diverse group of employees over the years. Currently, ownership is shared by Publisher Anne Swenson (thepub@elyecho.com), General Manager Nick Wognum (elyecho@aol.com), Editor Tom Coombe (tcoombe@aol.com) and Ad manager Lisa Vidal (ads@elyecho.com). Together they bring over 100 years of skill, service and training to Ely’s hometown newspaper. Their familiarity with Ely’s rich historical past gives the Echo insight into the changing times along the Canadian border.
