Donald G. Gardner became a summer resident at Ojibway Lake outside of Ely, Minnesota in 1941.
In 1944 Gardner donated a painting by Frederick C. Frieseke titled Breakfast in the Garden to the City of Ely. The painting was hung in the Ely Public Library in 1945 where it was admired for over 40 years.
In 1989, the painting was sold for $510,000.00 to a New York gallery and the City of Ely established the Donald G. Gardner Humanities Trust to enrich the community through arts grants and scholarships.
To date the Trust has awarded more than $625,000 back to the community artists and art organizations to enrich life in Ely.
We have been serving the Ely community for over 16 years. We work on all makes and models, and work with you on insurance claims.
Visiting a church is hard work sometimes! You’ve got to find parking, find the sanctuary, look for a place to sit, familiarize yourself with the worship service and try to find the hymns in the hymnal! If you’ve got kids, it’s even more complicated!

We provide northern Minnesota quality fishing, ice fishing, outfitting, dog sledding, hunting, hiking and other outdoor activities make your time on the edge of the wilderness remarkably unforgettable. We put remote within reach by providing an accessible and affordable destination on the brink of America’s true wilderness.
Our promise to you is simple: we will not leave a mint on your pillow, make swans from bath towels, nor provide a hot yoga room. We will, however, provide clean cabins, a responsive staff, quality equipment, and an abundance of spectacular Northern Minnesota outdoor adventures putting remote within reach for you.
Our operation is twofold: we are a boat and motor fishing lodge on Lac La Croix and we also offer canoe trips into Minnesota’s BWCAW and Ontario’s QUETICO PROVINCIAL PARK. If you don’t see a package that suits your needs, you can rest assured we will provide one for you.
