We pride ourselves on our strong academic programs, the athletic experiences we offer, our many diverse student clubs, and our friendly and helpful staff and faculty.
Our campus serves about 700 students – 600 on campus and the rest online or at other sites. Our student body comprises about 68 % male and 32 % female, with most students attending full-time. Most of our students are from the Midwest, yet we also have international students – this year, from countries as far away as Australia and Japan.
Minnesota North Vermilion costs are affordable, and we provide a living experience right on campus. You may prefer to live in the residence hall and not have to go outside during the winter months, or you may prefer to have a brisk wake-up call as you walk to classes from your Timber Ridge or college apartment. Either way, we can meet your needs.

The Ely-Winton History Museum desires to help you understand the land in which we live and what it offered to the people who lived here.
A community arose as people from diverse backgrounds came here to make a living and fulfill their dreams. The museum interprets what these people experienced in this land, what they strove for, how they coped with problems, what they achieved, and what they have passed down to their descendants. Using photographs, maps and artifacts, the displays present the different phases of 12,000 years of local history from prehistoric to the present.

The Ely Igloo Snowmobile Club was organized in 1960 and became the first club of its kind in the USA. The Ely Igloos were also one of the founding members of the International Snowmobile Association (ISA), which later became known as today’s Minnesota United Snowmobile Association (MnUSA).
Members of the club have developed trails in the Ely area, and each year in preparation for the upcoming snowmobile season, numerous club members volunteer their time to clear the trails of trees and branches.
An important mission of the Ely Igloo Snowmobile Club has been, from the very beginning, training of young snowmobile riders with a Snowmobile Safety Class taught each year. These classes teach boys and girls of at least 11 years of age about the proper etiquette of snowmobiling and the rules of the trail.
In recent years, the Ely Igloo Snowmobile Club has taken on the task of grooming the Ely area trails. The club receives funding from the state to maintain and groom the grant-in-aid Tomahawk Trail. Other local trails like the Bianchi Trail (off the Taconite Trail), the Ely/Winton Railroad Grade, and the 13 Corners Trail are also groomed by our club.
In addition, our club has taken on the task of staking and grooming numerous lake trails including Shagawa Lake/Fall Lake Trail, Burntside Lake Trail, Bass Lake Trail, White Iron Lake/Birch Lakes Trail, Little Long Lake Trail, Fall Lake/Cedar Lake Trail, Grassy Lake Trails and the Mud Lake Trail to Lake Vermilion.
Ely Wheel Park is open daily to riders with skateboards, scooters, inline skates and BMX bikes. The park combines traditional skating features such as concrete ramps, stairs and a grind box with wooden half pipe and quarter pipe elements.
The mission of the Ely Wheel Park is to provide a healthy alternative to traditional sports where students can explore their own creative abilities, as well as their athletic skills in a non-competitive environment, and within a community sanctioned space managed by the Ely Rec Center.
