Minnesota North College prepares lifelong learners and engaged citizens through inclusive, transformative experiences reflecting the character and natural environment of the region. The Vermilion Campus is located in beautiful Ely, Minnesota. We pride ourselves on our strong academic programs, the athletic experiences we offer, our many diverse student clubs, and our friendly and helpful staff and faculty. Our campus serves about 700 students – 600 on campus and the rest online or at other sites. Our student body comprises about 68 % male and 32 % female, with most students attending full-time. Most of our students are from the Midwest, yet we also have international students – this year, from countries as far away as Australia and Japan. Minnesota North Vermilion costs are affordable, and we provide a living experience right on campus. You may prefer to live in the residence hall and not have to go outside during the winter months, or you may prefer to have a brisk wake-up call as you walk to classes from your Timber Ridge or college apartment. Stony Ridge Resort is a family operated resort located just north of Ely, on the south side of Shagawa Lake. Stony Ridge offers rustic log cabins with the modern conveniences of home. We also offer RV and tent sites with water and electric hook-ups and of course, an awesome view of scenic Shagawa Lake. Shagawa Lake is a 2000 acre designated Walleye lake with no slots. It is stocked every 3 years with an average of 2.9 million fry. It also has very strong natural reproduction; this would explain the DNR’s 29.11 Walleyes per gill net! Shore lunch you ask? How about 26 islands to choose from. Stony Ridge Bait & Tackle Shop is a throw back to the “good ole days” with much to see and of course, we have everything to meet your fishing needs. Stony Ridge Café is very popular with Elyite’s (locals) as they refer to it as “Ely’s Best Kept Secret”. Our award winning café features over 50 gourmet burgers and our “Famous Stuffed Hashbrowns”. The mission of the Ely Area Food Shelf is to provide a resource for people living in Ely, Minnesota, and the surrounding communities who have run out of options to alleviate hunger. The food shelf is located at 15 West Conan Street and is open on the third Wednesday of each month from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. People who need assistance can shop between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Home delivery is available for people who are homebound and have no other options for receiving food, such as having a friend or relative shop for them. A volunteer will call to help you “shop by phone” and your food will be delivered. Call (218) 235-8527 to register for this program. When visiting the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, take in a round of golf at the Ely Golf Club. The grass on the greens consist of a bentgrass and poa annua mix, which is typical for most Northland golf courses. The fairways and tees consist of a bluegrass/poa annua mix. With adequate growing conditions the greens will be some of the best in the Northland. Jacob Curtiss, course superintendent, is committed to making the Ely Golf Club the premier Boundary Waters Golf experience in Minnesota.
